Description of the organisation

National Centre for Removable Energy - CENER Project partner. CENER is the “Renewable Energy National Centre” of Spain. It is a technological centre oriented and specialized in renewable energies. CENER is integrated in the CENER-CIEMAT Foundation. It is a non profit company, created by the Science and Technological Ministry of Spain and by Navarra's Government to encourage both the research and the development of renewable energies. CENER has to be distinguished by its high technical level and quality of service. It has experienced and recognized technical staff.

CENER was born in 1999 when the Science and Technology Ministry of Spain (MCYT), CIEMAT depending on MCYT and Navarra's Government signed an agreement to create it. Technical activities started in November 2000. Later on, in February 2002, the basic structure was established and the main office was opened in Pamplona. In summer 2002 the Foundation started its commercial activities.

CENER’s Foundation Board is as follows:

CENER, as a foundation, is an organization destined to:

Support the level of the sector competitiveness for helping companies to reach their R&D needs: Offering high added value services and activities and Transferring technology. Support the renewable energies development by means of: The generation, acquisition and diffusion of high level scientific and technical knowledge and the support to the market player and to public institutions in the creation of proper technical and legal framework.

CENER has five technical department:

  • Wind Energy
  • Photovoltaic
  • Bioclimatic Architecture
  • Power electronics and energy storage laboratory
  • Biomass Energy

CENER Biomass Energy Department has groups working on following topics:

  • Thermal and Electrical applications (gasification and combustion)
  • Biofuels and Resources Evaluation
  • Energy crops
  • Biodiesel
  • Fermentation / Bioethanol

CENER staff has participate in several training course for Environmental Master or for Renewable energy companies.
