Description of the organisation

ESCAN S.A. is a Spanish Engineering consulting dedicated since 1986 to energy consulting services and features an uninterrupted tradition of services for the Commission for the last 15 years. Founded in 1986, it specializes in the following areas of energy services:

• Consulting for the analysis and diagnosis of the energy and environmental resources. Technical Assistance through the European Commission, United Nations, and World Bank on projects about Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Rational Use of Energy (RUE), developed in Europe, Latin America and the Magreb Region
• Promotion and dissemination with courses, seminars, and conferences about energy technologies, in Europe, Latin America and Mediterranean Africa for RES and RUE.
• Planning and training for employment in the environmental sector, specifically through the introduction of RES and particularly of biomass in the energy market.
• ESCAN S.A. is member ADABE (Association for Biomass Dissemination), and cooperates with institutions like IDAE (Institute for Energy Savings and Diversification that is member of E nR), CADE (Centre for Energy Savings and Diversification), and other OPET, as well as OLADE (Latin American Energy Organization), JUNAC (Cartagena Agreement Board), and several National Energy Agencies in several Latin American countries (e.g. Chile, Peru, Mexico, etc.) as well as Mediterranean Africa.
• ESCAN S.A., has a permanent written collaboration agreement with the Mining Engineering School of Madrid (Polytechnic University of Madrid) for training and disseminations activities.

Previous Experience:

• Coordination of the PROPELLETS Project, Contract Nº 04/040/S07.38560 – ALTENER Programme, with the aim of the promotion of the Pellets in Europe and the overcome of market barriers. Training and dissemination activities.
• Coordination of the project and support for the Creation of the Regional Energy Agency of the Community of Madrid. EIE-2004 (HKA2), to be presented in EIE-2004 (HKA 2). Contract from the Regional Government of Madrid – 2004/5. .
• Coordinator of the PROFIT Logistics of Biomass project, contract with the Spanish Ministry of Sciences and Technology, for the study and optimization of Biomass Logistic Chains including field trials. National Programme for RES. Training and dissemination activities.
• Coordinator of the JOINT Project, Contract Nº 4.1030/Z/0.-079/2001 – ALTENER Programme, oriented to the preparation of three engineering projects and financial plans from biomass. Training and dissemination activities.
• Design of a guide-book of methodology for the energy utilisation of forest wastes, treatments, reduction, biomass densification and energy generation from biomass wastes
