UNIVERSIDAD DE VALLADOLID
Description of the organisation
The Laboratory of Renewable Energies (LER) of the Sciences Faculty is one of the Laboratories comprising the Department of Applied Physics, at the University of Valladolid. (Spain).
The laboratory has been operating as a solar energy laboratory suitable for educational and research purposes. The objectives of the experiments are: i) routine measurements and data analysis, ii ) services to third bodies, iii) oriented research; iv) educational activities in renewable energies. The staff is compose by 4 University teachers, 3 research students of Postgraduate level and 1 Support Personal. The Laboratory experimental area is located in a rural area 35 km ( 42º 49’ N, 4º 56’ W and 840 m above sea level) from the city of Valladolid over a parcel of 500 m 2, flat place which allows the laboratory to be positioned away from shadows.
The laboratory is a solar passive house with Trombe walls and it is equipped with sensor and recorder system.
The Laboratory has experience in
a) Solar and Meteorological data for applied studies and energetic efficiency. The laboratory is provided of a solar measurement station where solar radiation sensors record global, direct and diffuse solar radiation on horizontal and tilted surface (www. uva.es/renova). The time series of data are used for design and evaluation solar systems, solar system simulation and modelling solar radiation.
b) Study of the energetic balance in the separation surface earth-atmosphere: from 1988 we have collaborated in a team to measure and modelling energetic balance in the boundary layer measuring heat fluxes and the effect of different vegetation and soil conditions. We have participated in the organisation and development of filed experiences of measurements campaigns, where different meteorological and radiative variables were measured.
c) Study of Photovoltaic Systems yield: We have collaborated in the development and organization of the design, monitoring and data records evaluation of a PV plant grid connected in our Laboratory. The results of these experiences have been published in different National and International Journal and in International Congress, as it can be seen in CV sections.
d) Educational aspects in renewable Energies and Meteorology
The Laboratory has a great experience in renewable energy (RE) education and dissemination. A big quantity of RE educational activities are carried out by the laboratory , some of the are the following:
- Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses
- Training courses in collaboration with regional Institutions.
- Lectures in Summer University courses
- Projects for Renewable Energy Education quality improvement
- Educational material
- Field experiments
- Software and simulations
- Internet information
The laboratory collaborates in the Course of Solar Photovoltaic, given by the CIEMAT (Technological and Environmental Research Centre) in Madrid, in the subject of solar radiation. New project for education professors at secondary school level has been preformed. The contents of the course were a collection of manuscripts of the lectures and experimental material to complete a comprehensive educational demonstration course.
